Fifteen years of footsteps echoing through classrooms
Too small to hold the dreams that walked inside them
Fifteen years of teachers staying late
Of lights burning long after dismissal
Of lesson plans scribbled beside whispered du’as under tired breaths
Fifteen years of a vision
That knowledge could be sacred,
Faith could be lived,
And students could be raised to carry both in their hands
Do you remember the first building?
Hallways narrow, the classrooms few,
A staff so small it felt like a family more than an institution
But maybe that was the blessing: family
Teachers who didn’t just know your name,
But your siblings names, your parents faces, your strengths, even your struggles
A place where you couldn’t hide,
Because no one wanted you to
Here, education was never about disappearing into the crowd
It was about being seen, being known, and being shaped into a great person
We were young then, unpolished,
Carrying bookbags heavier than our courage
Walking into school unsure of who we were supposed to be
But AFA refused to let settle into comfort
We were reminded over and over
That failure isn’t the end of the story,
But part of it
And as we stumbled, we were never alone
We had teachers who corrected us with patience and perseverance,
Who raised their voices not to break us, but to lift us.
Teachers who did more than explain equations or books,
But who modeled character, discipline, and humility
They taught us that success without integrity is just failure in disguise
They taught us that our relationship with Allah is not separate from our education,
But the source of it and our success
That prayer before an exam is not superstition, but alignment
That salaam in the hallways is not small talk,
It is brotherhood and sisterhood carried in two simple words
We started as children measuring time by how long recess and the weekends were,
But slowly, our friendships deepened, voices matured, and minds expanded
We learned to carry responsibilities,
To balance both academics and faith
We learned that people sitting next to us weren’t just classmates,
But companions in a journey
People who would shape memories that time could never erase
Look at us now
Look at this school now.
From one small building to one that rises taller, stretches wider, holds more voices, more energy
From a handful of faculty to a faculty strong enou gh to hold up generations to come
From a couple of students to a wave of alumni spreading outward into the world
Carrying AFA in their speech, their character, and their choices
And growth, real growth, is never comfortable
It is moving from what is familiar to what is necessary
It is saying goodbye to the “easy” version of yourself to meet the stronger self waiting on the other side
It is realizing that your failures do not define you, your recovery does
It is finding that Islam is not something you perform for teachers or parents
But something you follow until it becomes the compass of your decisions
This school, this community, these 15 years,
They have given us more than grades
They have given us perspective
They have taught us that education is not a race, but a marathon
That knowledge without action is just like a lamp without light
That our job is not just to memorize, but to absorb and follow
That the real exam isn’t the one on paper, but the one written in how we treat people, and how we carry ourselves when nobody is watching
Fifteen years of parents investing their hopes
Of staff carrying burdens invisible to the eye
Of students finding their voice and learning how to use them with purpose
Fifteen years of memories: of school events, of annual banquets, the late night cramming, and the moments that molded us into who we are
Fifteen years of proving that Islamic education is not about sheltering us from the world
But preparing us to engage in it with dignity and respect
And tonight, we celebrate
Not with empty pride, but gratitude
Not with nostalgia, but with vision
Because we know this story is not finished, but just beginning
Fifteen years of AFA is a midpoint, a milestone, a marker on a much longer road
And when the next generation looks back, they will not just see buildings or anniversaries
They will see a legacy of resilience, of knowledge, and of faith.
So here we stand today, fifteen years later
Not just as students and teachers,
But as living proof that AFA is more than walls
More than lessons
More than just a building
It is a place that shapes hearts and molds character
A place where faith and knowledge work hand and hand
Where challenges are met with resilience,
and every students leaves carrying more than grades
If this is what fifteen years has given us,
Then the next fifteen years are not just about growth
They are about greatness.
They are about creating a legacy that echoes in voices and hearts
Long after we are gone.
Fifteen years behind us.
A lifetime of possibilities ahead.
Fifteen years has shown us what is possible,
And there’s so much more yet to come.
